Joseph is a conceptual artist born in Paris in 1961. He studied architecture and then graphic art at Sornas school. Afterwards, he went to Fine Art School to study drawing and painting. He is present on the contemporary Art scene since 1985. The artist is influenced by all the symbols of the consumerist culture. As part of this new generation of artists, he appears more talkative regarding the viewers, compared to 70’s Art radicalism. In his latest series of creations, the work assigns to the viewer a place. It is a function and a power, acting as an abyss as the viewer sees through it.
His use of texts rather than images sends a signal to us. The engaged work of the artist, in this way, gives the intuition of what he sees. The assembly of a work of lime confronts with the stiffness of the steel. It contributes to exacerbate the reflection of the viewer as for the past and the present. The man as the work become the sum of the years. Last Joseph ‘s series Steel add to its conceptual side an ounce of cynic humour.
