Dhoffer was born in Geneva, in 1951. When she was young, she developed a special passion for aviation and painting. She grew up with this irrepressible desire for liberty and she became an airline pilote. For many years, it channeled her energy and she flew accross the globe with airlines rom Swiss and South Africa.
In 1988, Dhoffer left her pilot career for an artistic one. She focused of her painting, creating artworks inspired by her imagination. Through her art, she explores surrealism with her own style but still with Art History references. However, the pilot eyesight memory of horizons is still fresh in her mind and her paintings are structured with very deep perspectives. The artworks are filled with phantasmagoric figures, felines, reptiles and people gently wrapped up in transparent plastic bags. She makes visual collages that have a resemblance with Max Ernst’s early artworks and it reminds of the Comte de Lautréamont’s phrase « beautiful as the chance meeting on a dissection table of a sewing machine and an umbrella ».
In Dhoffer’s art, there are 4 significant elements composing her series : Nature, animals, persona and objects. These elements are represented in a realistic way and they are an important part of the wild and strange atmosphere reigning over the artworks. She won the MAG 2012 Plexus Price and she is now present in our galleries.
