Charly Bounan surprises us, charms us and seduces us with his creation of a stunning organic universe. Endowed with an unparalleled sensitivity, his paintings plunge us into a macrocosm where dream reigns supreme.
His research around colorimetry takes on its full meaning here: through them, the artist achieves a striking pictorial power. The coldness of the blues blends harmoniously with the immaculate whiteness of the pearly tones of his flowers. Suddenly, without warning, the fuchsia and the orange heckle this original serenity. From then on, another season is born. Here, we admire the eternal seasonal cycle operating on the fragility of the petals of its flowers.
As a wink to Monet, Charly Bounan’s paintings celebrate the impressionist icon of Giverny. Sometimes abstract, sometimes figurative, Charly Bounan declines the water lilies in various and varied forms. For certain paintings it happens to him to crystallize in the acrylic and the plaster of the paper flowers… As if a winter frost had frozen them on a freshly snow-covered ground. For others, the fluidity of the pictorial touch seems to give the spectator the sensation of immersing himself in the lakes on which the water lilies rest. Charly Bounan’s works are part of those dreams that rock our imagination. The onirism that characterizes them leads us to a feeling of well-being. Calm and comforting.
In his latest pictorial period, Charly Bounan accentuates his work around the material itself. To do this, he uses three layers of resin: a first one with opaque colors, a second with severals brights colors layers and a last final one slightly tinted ; which can easily be compared to the apparence of stratum rocks. The geological universe of this series is accentuated by the use of earthy colors. These come from a subtle mixture of alcohol and oily ink as well as transparent resin. The tangle of materials and colors seems to evoke the earth’s crust of our planet. Once again, Charly Bounan celebrates nature. These paintings represent an expanding universe, which is not restricted to the physical edges of the canvas. Through this material freedom, Bounan’s work allows the viewer to immerse himself in a vast and borderless universe that he must experience on his own.
